What can you do to elongate the life of your pool filter
Brisbane weather can be harsh, from the extreme heat of the summer through to the westerlies that come through every year around Ekka time. All of these elements can wash unwanted debris and items into your pool making your pumps and filters work harder. Regular maintenance of your pool pumps and filters will keep your pool in tip top shape all summer long.
If you have cartridge swimming pool filters, back-washing or hosing your cartridges a few times a year can help to keep them clean.
What’s the best type of pool filter for my pool?
There are many different types of pool filters available in our Brisbane pool shop from sand pool filters, cartridge pool filters and Diatomaceous earth pool filters.
Sand Pool Filters
This type of pool filter is a very reliable and robust type of pool filter. Water is pushed through a bed of filter sand and then removed through a series of tubes through the bottom of the filter.
The concept works like many filters – dirty water goes into the filter at the top and is pushed through the layers of sand. The sand then stops any debris or waste material getting through the bottom of the filter, hence clean water comes out the bottom.
Swimming pool sand filters are easy to clean and maintain. A simple backwash (putting water through the pool sand filter in reverse) is all that’s needed to keep your sand filter clean and working in prime order.
Cartridge Pool Filters
Just like an air filter on a mower or a water filter system in your sink, water passes through the filter cartridges and the debris is caught by the cartridge letting the clean water pass through.
These are sometimes referred to as economical and low maintenance as you typically only need to clean them off with a hose a few times a year and the lower pressure means it will put less back pressure on your pump so you get more flow and a longer lifespan for your pump.
